Family Doctor
Symposium

15 November 2025
08:30 a.m. 1:00 p.m.

The symposium took place at Checkpoint Zurich.

The focus was on questions such as:
As a general practitioner, how can I provide respectful and participatory care to queer individuals? What are the latest findings in HIV treatment? How should I treat trans* individuals? Or what are the approaches to sexualised substance use among queer individuals?

These and other exciting topics were discussed during the half-day symposium for general practitioners and other interested medical professionals. The aim was to raise awareness of these issues among participants so that they can be identified during general medical consultations and appropriate support services can be provided.

The following topics were presented in 45-minute lectures:

  • Beyond viral load and CD4: Living well with HIV in 2025 – which preventive examinations are important?
  • HIV prevention in 2025: How can we achieve the WHO targets for 2030 in Switzerland?
  • STIs: What’s new in diagnostics and treatment?
  • Dealing with trans people in practice: tips for avoiding unintentional discrimination
  • Chemsex: How to recognise it, when to treat it?

The presentations were given jointly by clients and health experts from Checkpoint Zurich. The introduction was given by affected individuals, followed by specialist presentations with specific information and ideas for action in everyday practice. As an officially recognised SIWF training centre for general/internal medicine, 3 credits could be awarded for participation.

The event was held in cooperation with the SwissPrEPared programme at the University of Zurich.
