Study: SwissPrEPared
SwissPrEPared is a national programme and clinical trial with the aim of effectively preventing HIV infections and providing the best possible medical support for people at increased risk of HIV. The programme focuses on PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) – a medication that reduces the risk of HIV infection by over 99% when used correctly.
PrEP is also increasingly being used in Switzerland, particularly among men who have sex with men (MSM). SwissPrEPared is committed to ensuring that counselling, medical support and care in connection with PrEP are provided throughout Switzerland in accordance with high quality standards.
Checkpoint Zurich is the largest SwissPrEPared centre in Switzerland. We look after a particularly large number of PrEP users and actively contribute our extensive experience to the research and further development of PrEP provision.
SwissPrEPared study
SwissPrEPared is more than just a care programme – it is also a scientific study that investigates key questions about the impact, use and health needs of PrEP users. These include, among others:
- What impact does PrEP have on the HIV epidemic in Switzerland?
- How do we effectively reach particularly vulnerable groups?
- How do sexuality and sexual well-being change with PrEP?
- How can other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) be better recognised and treated at the same time?
- How do we ensure that PrEP is taken reliably?
- What other health and psychosocial needs do queer people have?
- What are the long-term effects of PrEP for HIV-negative people?
With SwissPrEPared, we are making a joint contribution to improving sexual health in Switzerland – scientifically sound, queer-friendly and prevention-orientated.
